TravelBook.ph joins advocate Noel Cabangon in calling for votes to name the Puerto Princesa Underground River one of the New7Wonders of Nature.

The underground river was chosen to represent the Philippines in the New7Wonders of Nature competition after two rounds of voting, on July 28 this year. Now the underground river must garner enough votes to land one of the top 7 slots against 28 other competing natural wonders around the world, including Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro, Italy's Mount Vesuvius, and the United States' Grand Canyon.

The Puerto Princesa Underground River is an 8.2km long subterranean river reputed to be the longest in the world. Located in the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, the Underground River is an important center for biodiversity conservation, with a full ecosystem spanning the sea to the mountains. The area is surrounded by majestic limestone or karst cliffs and its forests are home to monkeys, monitor lizards, and squirrels.

As reported on the Puerto Princesa Underground River's official website (http://www.puerto-undergroundriver.com/), president and founder of the New7Wonders Bernard Weber notes, "This is an extraordinary achievement and the eyes of the planet will be upon Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park and the Philippines in the next 2 years. My 2nd visit to China

As I’ve promise you guys, here are some photographs of my last visit to China, this time, at Haian City, about 3 hours land travel from Shanghai.

While crossing the streets, I got the opportunity to capture wide streets of Haian City, or shall I say, wide streets in China. During my 2 visits here, what captured my attention is their wide roads and separate bicycle lanes for bike lovers. I always dreamed of having that benefit here in the Philippines, to somehow, lessen our significant carbon emissions and help to increase healthy habits among Filipinos.

Shanghai, China - August 2011 Travel

For the second time, I've been blessed to visit China for another business trip. While last time I've been to Beijing, this time I got the chance at experiencing Shanghai.

Above is a photo of me at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Times like this, my iPod Touch is really of great use. I took advantage of the airport's free WiFi to let my girl know that I safely arrived China.

On the other hand, internet connection is not that too good for me. At the hotel where I stayed, Jinlong International Hotel, only Local Area Network (LAN) is available for internet connection. Add up to this are the restricted sites such as Facebook, Blogger, and Yahoo Mail. But I have lived with it for six days. Praise be to God!

As for the factory where I do business with, it is located at 210 Country Rd Nantong Jiangsu. Fortunately, WiFi is available within the area. But, I simply use it to communicate with my love ones back here in the Philippines.

A number of blessing poured over me in my Shanghai trip despite the fact that I was not able to tour around the city due to time constraint. One of which is the changing of Typhoon Mufia's course; and a plateful of breakfast to say the least.

My job does entail frequent traveling. Last week, I'm in Quezon Province. Right now, I am in Cebu City. Next week, I will be out of the country. Some would have wanted to have a job like mine; as for me, I just enjoy what God had provided for me and stay as amazed as ever to His creations.

This is a ricefield that I had passed by on my way. This is situated in Laguna. Seeing this green is really soothing and creates a peaceful mood.

Timoga Spring Pools - El Lauriento Resort

Last Thursday was my first time to experience swimming and feel the icy-cold water in the Timoga Spring Resort, Iligan City. It is located along National highway Timoga-Buru-un, in Iligan City, around some kilometers distant from the city proper. Its been a long time since I heard about the Timoga spring resorts, about its icy-cool and crystal-clear water that flows freely from one pool to another. It is said that the source of the cold water in Timoga springs comes from Lake Lanao in Marawi City which is 37 kms away from Iligan City.

And since I already experienced its cold waters for only Php50 per pax plus Php100 for table rental, I’m excited to share some photos taken from El Lauriento Resort, one of the five Timoga spring resorts.

By the way friends, there are other four spring resorts along the vicinity, which is easily accessible so, when in Iligan City, take time to visit the Timoga spring water resort and experience the excitement of swimming in icy-cold waters.

Durian is one of the famous fruits because of its distinctive odor, whom some find it offensive. But for me, its taste overpowers its odor. Do give it a try, you'll never regret you did.

I am blessed to have witnessed Diyandi Festival that year. As IliganToday.com states, Diyandi Festival is the official title for the city's month long cultural celebration. It concludes with the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel on September 29. So, if you are planning to visit the province, might as well make it a September visit.

While my girl and I were enjoying the cool breeze of the air outside their house, she had found an odd situation - a frog on a branch of one of their flowering plants. To our delight, we take pictures of it.

With this shot that she made, I taught her how to use the macro functionality of her camera.

After setting her camera, she has captured a seemingly perfect shot.

Next time, I should probably teach her about "angles".

Are We Prepared?

The wrath brought by Typhoon Ondoy last 2009 is still fresh in my memory. Although I am already used to a number of flood that come in our town, Typhoon Ondoy is way different. It is the worst I had ever witnessed so far.

Fearful, yet full of confidence to our Lord, best described my feelings with Typhoon Falcon. My family is that responsive enough to take care of our belongings and be prepared once the water level becomes high. With our Lord's grace, the water just rises up to around 4 inches inside our house. The following day, the water already subsided despite continuous rain shower.

It makes me wonder, "Are We Prepared?" Whenever I hear or read news regarding earthquake, typhoon (recently in Davao), among others, I got no resort but to call on God. But of course, we all should do our part, we all should be prepared.

I have heard about this Rescue72 and is interested with it. Basically, it is a disaster preparedness kit that will help you survive for 72 hours until a rescue comes over. But of course a lot of factors need to be considered. What matters is, you had been prepared.

Baguio Travel June 2011

This is my 2^nd day here in "Summer Capital of the Philippines", Baguio City – one of my top on the list when it comes to travel destination. It's a very nice and good day here, sun continue to shine while enjoying its cool mountain weather. This time, I’ve got a chance to enter the Benguet State University Campus as we buy some ube products produced by BSU students.

Wright Park, which is located across the main gate of the Mansion, is one of the scenic parks in Baguio City. It features body of water known as the "Pool of Pines" and the park circle which is on one end of the park. Postcard-type photographs are usually taken at both ends of Wright Park and when going there it is best to bring along a camera. Tall pine trees on both sides of the access road beside the pool decorate the park.

Mines View Park, no doubt, is one of the busiest and most visited parks in the city. In here, one can take a panoramic view of surrounding mountains and wide variety of views, from copper mines to mountains of pine tree to some residential areas between mountains. The first time I saw this park last October 1998, due to its beauty, I immediately think, if only my father would have a chance to see this magnificent view that Mines View has, well, he’ll surely utter how majestic is our Lord to create such wonderful place.

At the entrance to the park are stalls selling native handicraft. Wood carvings were one of the souvenirs known to visitors in visiting Baguio.

Dinner time, it’s time for me to try “Sizzling Pigar”. It’s a stripped beef meat topped with onions and served sizzling hot. Btw friends, It tastes great and deserves a second try.

Last night, a number of bloggers were luckily invited to the first ever Bloggers Buffet held at Carol's Texan 5 at 2F 713 J. Abad Santos St., Barangay Little Baguio, San Juan, Metro Manila. Despite the outpouring of rain that night due to Typhoon Falcon, we are not stopped from attending this event. And I am glad we are for we enjoyed the event from meeting new faces to indulging with good food.

fter attending some important meeting here at SM Marilao, we headed to SM Marilao's The Event Center to take a look of Daddy's Day Vintage Cars, Bikes, Motorcycles & Cameras June 2011 exhibit. Below are the photos.

I can't help myself but admire and be amazed of the owners who were able to preserve these items for such a long period of time. Not to mention that Typhoon Ondoy hit the province. I, too, am hoping that I could preserve my bike and camera that I may be one of the owners of the items being exhibited in this mall in the future.

FEBC's 63rd Anniversary

Since childhood, I have been celebrating the anniversary of Far East Broadcasting Corporation (FEBC) together with my family. Founded in 1945, it is a non-denominational, international Christian radio network that broadcasts the Good News in more than 130 languages from 128 transmitters located throughout the world.

This year, it injected a new activity in the celebration - running. It is dubbed as "I Run with a Living Hope", my family (my girl included) registered for the 3K category. Unfortunately, we were around 15 or 20 minutes late. So, we ended up just running less than a kilometer. With that, my girl and I headed on our way to CCP Complex to join the runners who were having their training.

After running for around 5km in almost an hour (walking for cool down included), we headed back to Bulwagan ng Panginoon (formerly known as Folk Arts Theater) for the anniversary.

A number of presentations transpired in the anniversary centering on who our Living Hope is. At the same time, FEBC introduced their aspirations for its future. We're not that close in the stage so I don't have a good quality photos to share. Sorry about that.

At the end of the program, we had our picnic just outside the bulwagan, beside the Manila Bay. Don't you worry, there's no stinking smell here.

After filling our stomach with good food, we proceed to Rizal Park (through walking) which deserves another post.

I am not really the one who'll spend money just to watch a concert of my favorite band or artist. But if it's for FREE, I'll definitely give it a go.

It was more than a year ago when I last watched a concert. The concerned was dubbed as Extraordinary Songs held at the Aliw Theater. The performers then were Erik Santos and Sitti. Yes, it was for free courtesy of my colleague. And fortunately enough, I had a picture with Sitti.

Set to be Resorts World Manila's first exclusive production, KAOS was conceptualized with international audiences in mind. A Day That Was

Last night after attending a seminar at Seameo Innotech, I met with the person that my girl and I contracted to have our house plan prepared. It is fulfilling on my part that slowly, there’s an accomplishment with respect to building our dream home. While I am particular with the details, my girl seems to be very focused on the kitchen. She always looks for the island. It won’t be a wonder if she’ll ask me to buy howard miller clocks for furnishing. But that’s still many months from now. We have to work hard and pray hard first as well.

After that, we met with my office friends and have a sumptuous dinner at TGIFriday’s, Trinoma. And since TGIF is known for singing for the guest who is celebrating their birthdays, we told them that it was my girl’s birthday. Well, it is her birthday this coming Tuesday. Yes, they do sing for her and gave her a complimentary ice cream with a birthday candle on it.

That great dinner was followed by a blueberry cheesecake and heaven on earth dessert at Starbucks. Definitely, we all have a cup of coffee. I got Java Chip Frap. We had a chit-chat and laughter. Since we all have work the following morning, we call it a day at around 9:30PM.

Well, that’s a day that was for me. How about you?

Once again, the country’s one and only partner in opening up the true spirit of the holiday season, Coca-Cola, rolled down the highly anticipated Coca-Cola Christmas Caravan and the annual Araneta Center Giant Tree Lighting last November 12, 2010 at the Araneta Coliseum parking lot. Right after the caravan spread cheers across the upbeat hub, more and more surprises were opened up as the energetic duo of Nicole Hyala and Chris Tsuper welcomed guests to the various game, activity and photo booths lined up by Coca-Cola just before the official tree lighting ceremony started. The renowned Love Radio tandem DJ’s bonded and shared an early Noche Buena feast with the celebrity guests, granted some of the guests’ heartfelt wishes and gave away raffle prizes to lucky folks all through out the afternoon.

In no time, all the rush and thrill finally led to the much-awaited lighting of the Giant Christmas Tree situated at the heart of Araneta Center, a celebrated custom since 1981. The exciting countdown to the “it-moment” was joined in by officials from the local government, Araneta Center and The Coca-Cola Company along with Kim Chiu and Enchong Dee along with other personalities and celebrity guests. Standing at almost 100ft. this year’s tree is bedecked with more than 10, 000 lights and hundreds of stars and Coca-Cola Christmas balls, with huge ribbons and colorful gift boxes as accents. I’m thinking of changing my blog’s URL. I guess the “Philippine Place” title no longer fit the contents of my blog. Moreover, I don’t want to create a blog for the different niches that I’ve been touching in my posts. But my brains just cannot help me right now on what title will fit in. Maybe my brains had already been consumed by the zombies, LOL! I still got that Plants vs Zombies fever.

Having my own domain also crosses my mind. Whenever I attend blogger events, I felt somehow annoyed with the long URL that I am writing in the registration. Although it ain’t matter, I know. I know I need not to transfer the hosting of my blog just to have a new domain, but I am thinking of trying it out. Care to suggest the best web hosting that offers the cheapest price in the web?

My girl once bought a domain at GoDaddy.com. Everything’s smooth and she had configured her blog that easy. But problem arose when her Yahoo account is hacked. And interestingly, the hacker only modified her GoDaddy.com account. Or shall I call it weird?

Would it be better to have my blog in Wordpress instead of Blogger?

You see, all these questions run in my head, and I can’t think of an answer. I guess I have to play Plants vs Zombies first, LOL!

SM City Marilao Christmas Launch

Last Saturday, my girl and I joined SM City Marilao as they unveil Santa's Factory in their Center Atrium. Actually, SM Supermalls nationwide kicks off its Joyful Christmas celebration all at the same date, November 6, 2010.

We failed to witness the opening of the program. We arrived just exactly when the Christmas Chrisms Bop (SM Supermalls Christmas Jingle) is to be sung. The jingle is intended to add the Christmas spirit in music for dear shoppers that will surely give more cheers to kids and adults alike.

It was then followed by the most anticipated part of the program - the opening of Santa's Factory. SM City Marilao mimic the famed house up on the North Pole where toys are made. With this Santa's Factory in the Center Atrium, shoppers can have a photo taken in Santa's favorite place in his home - by the fireplace where he makes his list.

And what's Christmas without giving gifts? Remember the most precious gift that we have received?

What's Up With My Abode?

So what’s the development about my house? My would-be humble abode is STILL drawn in a piece of paper. It is not yet the time to canvass for refrigerator, gas stove, dining table, living room furniture set, and even that rustic bedroom furniture. It is simply not yet the time to have my eyes stuck on those. But nevertheless, it is slowly having improvements.

My girl and I contacted someone to prepare the house plan for us. The package includes all the requirements for the PAG-IBIG housing loan. It also covers the application for Building Permit in the municipal hall. Although it is taking quite considerable amount of time in the preparation of our house plan, that’s absolutely alright with me. I, myself, am looking into details of the house plan – electrical outlets and materials for construction included. There are nights that I have to spend an hour or more looking into details. I believe I am doing the right thing for the construction of the house will be based on the plan; therefore, any lousy details included in it would make a domino effect.

Hopefully, the construction could start early next year given that I could process all the necessary documents and requirements this December. Help me God.

Goldilocks Pagbabago Blog Contest Awarding Ceremony

Last Friday, October 22, I accompanied my girl in the awarding ceremony of Goldilocks "Pagbabago" Blog Contest. It was held at Goldilocks' Shaw Boulevard Branch. Upon arrival, we were given Decorate Your Cake (DYC) kits for us to make our own cakes. The one with the most creative cake will win a prize. I really got no idea on what to put on my cake, so here's all that I got:

The lucky winner is that creative. She sliced her mamon to make it heart shaped and put on Goldilocks' new logo in it. There is also a photo booth at the event where my girl and I posed for a souvenir picture.

After a couple of minutes or so, the ceremony officially started. We were then served by the Goldilocks' crew of our dinner that made me real full.

We had laing, pork barbecue, sotanghon, fresh lumpia, rice, chocolates, and a cup of softdrinks. And just when I thought that it is everything that they had to offer, they served us with Almond Lychee Popz.

Now, this is something that we can have aside from their popular Sago't Gulaman. It contains these bubbles that pops in your mouth. Definitely, kids will enjoy it.

A mini-contest for the bloggers was also held, but my girl's group did not win. They failed to answer correctly on how many flowers are there on the edges of an Oreo, LOL! Where does that question come from?

For the awarding ceremony, they had Edward of Magkaribal to assist them. I barely know anyone from the winners. But from what they had told, I guess they were really that deserving.

Congratulations to the winners who brought home iPod Touches and iPad! And a thumbs up as well to Goldilocks and Nuffnang for the successful contest that they had. Also, thanks to Goldilocks for the box of classic polvoron and a pouch of dinuguan.

It is the sportsfest in our company this week, I joined the basketball and table tennis tourney. However, yesterday I was invited to play bowling at SM Annex Bowling Center. I am not really that good in bowling, I just love to play.

We played three sets, I guess I am the lowest in the first two sets. Then my girl came to watch me. Inspired? Well, most probably because I had five straight spares. Although I could have really wanted to have a strike, but I just can't.

Reason for My Hiatus

I have been out from blogging lately, pardon me. I’ve been busy with work and church activities. In fact, I haven’t accompanied my girl from her running events too. Nonetheless, I still exercise at least twice a week using my stationary bike.

Hmmm, what is consuming my time lately at work? Aside from the endless reports that I need to submit, our company is currently holding a sports fest type of activity where I would be playing basketball and table tennis. We had a couple of basketball practices and once table tennis. It is amazing to know that most of my colleagues here do excel in sports activities. As for me, I just enjoy it. Anyhow, the main goal of which is to promote healthy lifestyle. Another remarkable thing was when I attended one of the committee meetings. I was astonished to know that some of the participants/committee of our sports fest will be handled by national athletes. They were introduced to us either by word or by their entertainment business cards. I thought, playing with them would already mean achievement for me. That’s exciting.

As for our church activities, I attended our church service at Malabon yesterday. After which, I attended fellowship at Edified. It was pretty busy day, but I felt no loss of energy – anything for the Lord.

At the end of the day, my family and I pass by SM Marilao to take advantage of the 3-day sale. I purchased a jacket from Arrow. It was my gift for myself. We all should treat ourselves once in a while. So there, you know now why I haven’t been blogging for long now. I’m just keeping in touch. Will blog again when able. Thanks for the visit my friends.

Starting a Business?

Have you imagined yourself five, or maybe ten, years from now still working as an employee of the company where you’re at? Sometimes I do; but most of the time, I don’t. I am always looking forward at setting up my own business and be the boss of my own company. Who wouldn’t?

But then again, I know it’s not easy. We may look up to those who were already successful and hoped that we could achieve what they had at an instant. Not knowing what they have toiled before they stand on that pedestal. I should know, because I once tried to start a small food cart business back in the hometown of my girl. At first, it was gratifying that we’re earning a few. Months pass, and our earnings become lesser compared to our expenses. Thus, we’ve got no resort but to stop our business. A lot of money, time, and effort have been wasted there. It was depressing. But in every thing, there is a brighter side. We may have lost money, time, and effort; but I know we’ve gain experience which is indispensable compared to the latter.

Just a piece of advice, like what I had already told a number of times before, providing yourself sufficient knowledge with whatever you wanted to do. Read Business Articles, tons of them, if you have to. Knowledge and God are the best weapons in every fight you’ll have to deal with.

Tiktakbo 3: Isa, Dalawa, Takbo

It surprised me seeing my list that I have been off from running for almost a month. Well, it is brought by my no show at the Run to Read last August 15 where I should have run my first 15K. Anyway, I had laced up and ran a 6K Couples category in Tiktakbo 3: Isa, Dalawa, Takbo at UP Diliman last Sunday and had more or less 5K of cool down (if that's what we can call it) in the UP Academic Oval. I don't know if race results were already out, but my unofficial time is 48 minutes 59 seconds.

Thumbs Up

The race bib is printed in tarpaulin. I make it a thumbs up for race bibs in paper easily tore apart.
Registration fee is pretty cheap, PhP600 for a 6K couples (2 race kits).
It started on time.
I have to commend that there are portalets situated beside the venue.
New route (at least for me).
Sufficient hydration, and a refreshing cold Pocari Sweat around 1K before the finish line and after the finish.
The venue itself, for me, is a thumbs up for you can still have your cool down around the UP Acad.

Thumbs Down

KM markers and marshals become insufficient for the last finishers of the 18K category. My girl and I waited for ChickenLegs to finish his race. But upon seeing that it's time for us to leave, we decided to leave. Luckily, we still spotted him and was able to cheer him for he was only a few meters before the finish. That is when we noticed that there were no more marshals to attend to the remaining 18K runners.

After the race, we headed on to Conti's for a post breakfast :)

My officemates and I frequently have our lunch at Centris. It is walking distance from our office. However, I still haven't stop by the newly opened Centris Walk until last Sunday where my girl and I drop by 7-11 and Tutti Frutti.

It is such a great place where you can enjoy. You wouldn't even believe that it is just right beside EDSA. It makes me feel like I'm on a different place.

In Centris Walk, you can enjoy ASYA (Filipino Asian Restaurant), Italianni's Restaurant, Jack's Loft (it's considerably small), MYTHAI Kitchen, Pancake House, Pho Hoa, Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt (recommended), and Zong (Dining Redefined). Soon to open are ClawDaddy and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Centris Weekend Market also happens every Saturday (6AM to 2PM) organized by Sidcor.

Drop by the place sometime, it's worth it.

On this spot, Palo, Leyte, General Douglas MacArthur returned to the Philippines on October 20, 1944. Personally led the swift drive against the Japanese forces in the Philippines. President Sergio Osmeña and some members of the government-in-exile arrived with General Douglas MacArthur and proceeded to reorganize, restore and administer the government of the commonwealth of the Philippines. Declared a National Historical Landmark on 2004.

My Simple Birthday Celebration

Last July 23, I celebrated my 29^th birthday; and I thank God for the very wonderful life that He had given me; and for continuing to bless me everyday of my life.

For my celebration, it is not that fab. I just spend it with my girl and that's it. We had frozen yogurt from Red Mango and pesto from The Old Spaghetti House.

As for my present, my officemates gave me this cap from Adidas.

From my girl, I received a birthday card and a sort-of-GC in an envelop within an envelop within an envelop. It is similar to a maze wherein I have to decide which envelop to open; which would somehow lead me to a birthday present I most like based on the decisions I made. She's just a witty girl :)

We still haven't bought my present. So, I still cannot post it here. Will do it once I had a hand of my present :)

Anyhow, I would like to thank everyone for all the warm greetings on my birthday! I appreciate it, really.

I am a well traveled individual, I profess. My work allows me too. In a month, my travel could range from 2-5. It can be a travel by land, by water, or even by air. Indeed, I travel a lot. And I believe many of you who is a frequenter of this blog wanted or wishes to have a job like mine. But is it fun? Not really.

Yes, I've been in almost all parts of the country - Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. I've been up north at Banaue and down south at Cagayan de Oro. The first few travels of my work is quite enjoyable. Well, I guess every 'first' is an enjoyable experience. BUT, as I travel more often, the excitement is lessen. It's not that I don't want to see the beauty of the Philippines or anything. It's just that, I would have loved to travel provided that it is solely on vacation mode.

Each time I pack my things and I ride a plane, I am looking forward at enjoying Philippines. However, since I'm on a business trip, I really don't have the luxury of time to have a pure vacation.

This time around, since SEAIR and Microtel Boracay is holding a contest, I wanted to grab that opportunity of traveling solely for a vacation. With that, I can take shots of the beauty of Boracay with my camera and share how heavenly the land is here in my blog.

There is not enough public libraries to serve millions of students, currently there are 688 public libraries of all types and there should be more. The lack of facilities is even compounded by the fact that a significant number of these libraries are under-funded, understaffed, poorly equipped, or in bad physical condition forcing it to stop functioning.

To date, the country has 1,163 libraries less than required. This affects 40% of the population or nearly 40 million Filipinos as it unacceptably deprives our children of a resource that could spell a difference for their future.

To date, if I had to choose the best fun run that I had ever joined, I got a couple to list. The best singlet will go to KOTR, the best hydration will go to Globe, and the best route will go to those runs that were held at UP Diliman.

Our last run, fortunately, was held at UP Diliman last Sunday, July 11, 2010. It was the NutriBar Hip 2b Fit Fun Run 2010 as sponsored by Grower's and UP Mountaineering for the benefit of the UP Padyak project. Well, I am glad that with a "small race event", still, a lot of runners from all walks of life participated. For the "elite runners", it could mean easy money; but for us, it is all for fun, health, and the help extended for the race's cause.

As I mentioned, I love the UPD route. So that's a thumbs up for me.
They got a special parent-child 3K race which I think is cool. A great bonding moment for families.
Markers and marshals are sufficient.
Cold hydration were offered in the stations, and are equally sufficient that even the non-registered runners were able to have a cup or two.
Freebies, ample of 'em. Plus the free NutriBar snacks that we got at the post race.
Raffle at the end of the race. I'm not lucky to won though.

Hmmm, I would love to suggest to have the parent-child race be certified if the registrants are really connected by blood. A birth certificate will do, perhaps.

34th National Milo Marathon

Twenty (20) races. Twenty races under my belt. And I have to say that, this time, my girl and I is a little bit cautious in the races that were joining. No more "I love that singlet" and no more "That's a prestigious race". What were after to now is, "It's for a good cause" and "It's cheap". Hence, battling over registering for a 10K at P500 and 5K at P100 for the 34^th National Milo Marathon, we chose the latter. With just P100 registration fee (plus a pack of at least 300g of Milo) we joined the event.

For the 3K and 5K, it is cheap. In fact, the cheapest of all the races that we had joined.
P5 of your registration fee goes to the cause which is "to give shoes to the public schools all over the country"
Around 27,000 runners woke up early last July 4, 2010 to partake in the event. And though huge, the organizers had handled the number properly.
Sufficient hydration booth. Okay, I speak for the 5K runners. I had read that the hydration had gone empty for the last few kilometers of the marathoners.

Great post race event. We were entertained by the cheer dance competition, a few celebrities, free massage (but we did not avail of it), unlimited cold Milo drinks (refreshing), and photo walls.

I only had a single "thumbs down" for this event. Just when everything seem to be perfect, there will always be room for improvement. And that has something to do with the baggage area. Baggage area are installed in the race event venues so that runners can deposit their bags just in case they don't have the vehicle to leave it to, giving the runner the peace of mind that his belongings are in good condition. But to my dismay (and to all the 3K, 5K, and 10K runners who deposited their bags at the baggage area), it was a total disaster. You can see bags scattered on the staircase. The crowd is begging to have at least a systematic approach on claiming their belongings.

I feel sorry for the owner of the bag whose personal belongings were scattered on the floor - Key, flash drive, deodorant were among those.

On the brighter side, I have to commend the policemen who kept their cool. They offer help in the best way that they can, without a word, just pure work.

At the end of our run, my girl and I were contemplating on why did we register for this event, ha ha. We sorted the reasons out and concluded that it was all because of the freebies, LOL!

This is a run for a cause (for the environment specifically).
Registration includes singlet, bib number, and free mug.
If you have an SM Advantage Card, you'll get free cap too.
A lot of freebies after the race, free massage, and great raffle prizes too.

The gun start had been triggered earlier. The 10K is supposedly starting at 5:50AM. But the 10K pack started earlier; thus, we're late.
A lot of runners partake in the event, and the organizers may have overlooked at it. They mishandled that huge runners.
Overcrowded runners on the FINISH line, making it difficult to 10K runners on their second loop.
While having our picture taking at the FINISH line, we spotted a 10K runner who seem to have just finish the race. Unfortunately, no more marshal is present. Too bad.
The line in claiming of the tote bags is pretty long; but I don't need to wait that long for my girl knows how to have it immediately, he he.
Same thing with the baggage counter, unsystematic.

I cannot really comment on the hydration for we did not stop for one. We brought our own. Plus, we won't be waiting for the race result anymore, we DNF. But knowing that this race was organized by the same people behind The Mighty Run, race result might be nowhere to be found too.

the freebies

The race organizers sure still has a lot to improve. Nonetheless, it was a FUN RUN. We finished our 5K at 0:33:18; wherein we felt that it is shorter than 5K. I even overheard someone that it was just 4.2K.

Hundred Islands, Alaminos, Pangasinan

Last June 13-14, 2010, my girl and I together with her family had an outing at Hundred Islands at Alaminos, Pangasinan. The said tourist spot had a total of 123 islands (as what our tourist guide, Julius, said). And the body of water surrounding these islands is the Lingayen Gulf.

I will be sharing you here pictures of our island hopping (Day 1).

Island Hopping: P2,000 (we're 14 in the group - 13 adults and 1 child)

Fee: P20 each (for the whole day)

Quezon Island

A place to swim and eat.

Cottage that we rent: P600
Food that we eat: P1,050 (2 milk fish, 8 squid, 2K rice, and 2 softdrinks)

After the fun and lunch at Quezon Island, we had our snorkeling activity. Unfortunately, we don't have any picture of it to share. Just a thing, be brave enough of the water even if you don't know how to swim; just secure yourself with your life vests. You won't enjoy the activity unless you conquer your fear.

Children's Island

I believe this island is meant for children for it was only 2-3 ft. (?) deep. But for me, it is not advisable for it was cruel on one's foot. Not really a place to enjoy swimming.

The last in the list for today. It was a cave that somehow resembles a tunnel. But you cannot cross the cave and swim on the other end. Only picture-taking is allowed.

Walk the World 2010

My Running Diary:

My list had been growing at a constant rate; and I have to say that I never thought that I could reach this far when I am really hesitant at the beginning. The early wake up and the travel already stresses me out. But I survived, and here I am still aiming at crossing every FINISH line. I guess the thing that pushes me to run is (aside from my girl) is the thought that in every step that I make, I am running for a certain cause, I am helping a certain organization, I am helping a life.

This same thought is what moved me to get up from bed despite the weather (it had been raining recently). I participated in the Walk the World 2010 to end hunger. Together with thousands of runners and walkers, we take away the worry of raining (great that it did not rain, not until everyone is finished). This must be an exhibit of God's providence.

Of all the races that I joined, this is the cheapest - PhP250 only. Your registration is already inclusive of their Walk the World 2010 shirt and certificate of donation.
With that amount of registration fee, the event did not fall short of hydration. Booths offered cold water sufficient for all runners.
They use paper cups rather than plastic ones.
I also wanted to place here in the thumbs up of the race the considerable number of participants. It was nice and heart-warming to know that runners somewhat believe in a certain cause, and not just concentrate on running, personal records, or even winning.
Although not many, the runners were still entertained with the dancers and higantes from Pampangga at the post-race event. The masters of ceremony were the Hizon couples from the land of basketball. KC Concepcion also entertained the runners together with the kids.
Knowing that I run in order to end hunger and that I run together with other countries all over the world is an 'x' factor of the event.
Baggage counter is positioned in a cemented area so that if rain comes, our things won't get wet.

I guess the only thumbs down for this event is the late gun start. Good thing the weather is that cooperative. I come home with still fresh legs and not weaken by the heat of the sun. God is good.
